Congratulations to Chieme, an MD/PhD student in the lab, on receiving the 2025 Margaret and Thomas Lew Publication of the Year Award for her first author paper “The mitochondrial citrate carrier SLC25A1 regulates metabolic reprogramming and morphogenesis in the developing heart” published in Communications Biology. This is a fantastic recognition of Chieme’s scientific contributions and hard work!
We are so happy to congratulate Luke, a 4th-year BCDB graduate student in the lab, on being awarded a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Predoctoral Fellowship. This highly competitive fellowship recognizes Luke’s potential as a developing scientist and supports his continued training and research.
This is a major achievement and a wonderful reflection of Luke’s hard work and dedication. We are incredibly proud of him and excited to see where his research leads next.
Congratulations, Luke—well deserved!
We are excited to celebrate Chieme on receiving the Chateaubriand Fellowship, supporting research training in Paris. This prestigious award recognizes Chieme’s excellence and opens the door to an exciting international research experience.
Congratulations on this wonderful achievement!
Nahum Arefeayne, an Emory MD/PhD student is joining the lab! Prior to coming to Emory, Nahum was a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major at the University of Maryland, where he was in both the Meyerhoff Scholars Program and the HHMI Scholars Program. Welcome to the team Nahum!
A huge congratulations to Nasab, a 3rd-year PhD student in the BCDB program! Nasab has been awarded an American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship, supporting her work on how acylations of cyclophilin D regulate heart function.
Congratulations to Nasab on this well-deserved achievement!
So happy to share that Nasab has been named an ARCS Foundation Scholar. This recognition reflects her dedication, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to rigorous scientific research.
We are very proud of Nasab’s accomplishments and look forward to seeing what she achieves next. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!
Luke Shoemaker, a PhD student in the BCDB graduate program will be joining the lab! Luke hails from Hope College, where he studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and did research at the Van Andel Institute. Luke will doing his thesis research in both my lab and Dr. Guy Benian’s lab, and will be studying the role of beta-PIX signaling in the heart.
Congratulations to Chieme, an MD/PhD student in the lab for being awarded an American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship to study the role of SLC25A1 in the developing heart!
Adam is joining the lab as part of the Emory SIRE program and will be studying how the mitochondrial citrate carrier interacts with other genes important to heart development.
